Halifax Home Insurance has reported that 1.5m British homes' roofs were damaged by high winds last year. The research found that in the last 12 months, damage to the tune of £4.5bn was caused by high winds of up to 77 miles per hour, damage worth £2.5m was caused by leaking roofs, and 200m tiles had to be replaced. The average cost of wind damage hit £2,800, equating to 12% of the average British salary. This means any victim without adequate buildings insurance was dealt a huge blow, according to Halifax.
