Olympics to prove 'an advantage' to East London
The 2012 Olympics will have a positive impact on east London's housing market, according to one property website, as will improvements to the area's transport system. The Buy Association's Paul Collins predicted that the expansion of Newham's London City Airport would have little impact on house prices, but that other changes to local transport like the extension of the Docklands Light Railway could prove advantageous. He also rejected claims of a shortfall between the costs and benefits of the approaching Olympics, noting that, in other cities that have held the Games, Olympic sites have been successfully regenerated as residential areas and their facilities effectively reused.
