The cost of moving home in Britain today is extremely daunting, a new study has found, with buyers expected to shell out even bigger proportions of their earnings in future. UK homeowners typically move three to four times during their lifetime, according to Abbey's research, with it costing £16,000 on average for each change of address, even excluding the price of buying the new house itself. It is estimated that the nation's home-movers spent £28 million during 2006 alone, while the average first-time buyer today can expect to ultimately spend the equivalent of nearly two years and four months' worth of earnings on the process
