Pensioners Still Paying Mortgage Debt
Retirees and people getting near to retirement age still have to make repayments on their mortgage, according to a new study. Figures revealed that one quarter of pensioners will still owe money on their mortgage during their old age. Combined, these retirees are likely to be £98 billion in mortgage debt - owing an average of £31,000 each on their home loan. Those over the age of 70 look likely to be worse off, according to the report, facing as much as £37,000 in mortgage debt during their twilight years.
