First Time Buyer Increases

There was an unseasonably strong 11 per cent jump in first-time buyer numbers during December, according to a report by Mortgages Direct, the lending arm of the UK's largest independent estate agent group, Spicerhaart.

The proportion of first-time buyers taking out a mortgage with the company last month was a substantial 48 per cent, the highest figure since their survey began a year ago.
