House prices rose for a second consecutive month in January, according to property consultant Hometrack's latest survey published on Monday. It said that prices rose by 0.1 percent during January, bringing the average cost of a home to 161,100 pounds, although they were still down 1.04 percent on a year earlier. In December, Hometrack reported house prices rose for the first time in 18 months.
