Government officials said the new style sellers pack, which requires sellers to provide a condition report, will cost around £650 on average and not the £1000 as previously thought. The government hopes the packs will considerably reduce the wasted daily monies of around £1m when sales fall through. It is thought that the total costs involved for people buying and selling a home would remain stable, but that some costs would switch from buyers to sellers.

The requirement to have a Home Information Pack will not come into force until early 2007.
